10 Questions: Adil Tiscatti - Santa Teresa Cinema Founder (Brazil)

posted by Salla Sorri at 8h43 GMT on Aug 28

What is democracy for you Adil?
For me it’s a stage in people’s relationship where all opinions are heard and respected, even if one minute later these same opinions become drastically contested.

Is democracy is good to everyone?

Yes. There’s nothing wrong with democracy. What some people call a defect is often a bad interpretation and misunderstanding of what democracy really is.

Why vote nowadays? Why bother?

I don’t believe in voting anymore. The act of voting has lost its important function of choosing a representative, as a matter of fact, in contemporary world today vote means, or is meaning you give up your wills to a more homogeny that will manifest in many different ways and unfortunately sometimes the worse ones.

Do you think that God is democratic?

God is a word that carries lots of meaning, isn’t it? If you picture God as Roman Catholic and Apostolic, I don’t think he is democratic, as the church preaches this God. He actually excludes things and people. But God in an indigenous concept, like others Gods, Greeks ones, these ones were democratic or still are.

And do you think that terrorism can compromise democracy?

In fact I believe that terrorism phenomenon’s can compromise the relationships between groups, tribes and society, but on the other hand I don’t think it would destroy it as suggests, because democracy, actually terrorism is a result of this “Addicted Democracy” we are living in today.

Between men and women, do you believe that there are distinctions about who is more democratic, or they are equally democratic?
I assume that women are more democratic, because they are less contaminated by “The Thirst of power”, thirst of conquest . I assume that women are more democratic since they suffer less from the effects of a eager, which is more like a manly characteristic, eager for power, for a conquest, or subdue others peoples to your will. Maybe the maternity feeling protects women from this awful thirst of having people subdued to your will. I would say women are more democratic.

And do you think that dictatorship governments could be good in anyway?
No, I don’t, I think dictatorship governments are the big problem of humanity. I believe that governments should change radically. But these days I can’t see many differences between the so-called dictatorship governments and the democratic ones, because in fact to call the others of democratic you got to be dictator and vice and versa.

And inside this context, what would make you initiate a revolution?
As a matter of fact I’ve already started a revolution. Without having any pretentious attitude, but in the last years of my life I’ve been conducting an internal revolution, an individual, personal, because in fact my concept of revolution is based exclusively, directly and objectively on self-revolution. I don’t believe in collectives’ revolution that doesn’t come from an individual one first.

Do you think that democracy might resolve climate problems that we are facing today?
I don’t think so. No, I don’t. In fact in my opinion all climate problems are caused by the eagerness of power, thirst for money, for properties. So indeed, what will resolve the climate problems in my opinion is that we, all of us, humans, should realize that the planet is and should be a collective territory. Let us live and cohabit in harmony in it. Whereas we still have someone thinking that he deserves a portion bigger than anyone else, the climate issues will only increase.

Could you answer that including the question?
If I had to, if I was obligated to vote for someone to be the president of the world, I would vote in anyone. Would vote null.
Wonderful…
