Discussion about democracy in Chinaposted by Watson Meng at 17h39 GMT on Oct 8
![]() As the editor from Boxun, I can tell you that we receive a lot of news that is not covered by official media. What exactly is happening in China? Democracy in China affects every corner of the world. For example, with issues in North Korea, Burma, etc., China is playing a strong role, but it could be improved. Comments: |

Assist the Chinese people to realize democracy in Mainland China
The one-party dictatorial regime of the CCP is in direct opposition to the force of democracy and justice of the whole world.
In order to maintain is evil rule, the CCP will leave no stone unturned to curb the force of democracy and justice of the Western World, even to the extent of launching a nuclear war.
Therefore, not only deplorable for the Chinese people, but for the whole world as well, that democracy has not yet been realized in Mainland China.
Democracy in Mainland China is not only something that concerns the 1400 million people in Mainland China, but something that is closely related to the peace, stability and safety of the entire world.
Kindly be concerned with, and assist the Chinese people to realize democracy in Mainland China.

Very good comments
Thank you, JIA KUO.
The rest of the world cares more about the products from China, and thinks less about the situation in China and how it will affect the world.

A quesiton to readers from Western countries
We know that tourists from China bring huge cash to Las Vegas, and other cities. The statistics show Chinese tourists rank #1 in spending per person by Japan, and some other countries. Russia, North Korea and Burma etc built Casinos on the border to arract Chinese gamblers. The official number is about $80 Billion a year was spent in Casinos along Chinese border.
Personally, I do not think hard working people will go gamble in overseas, especially spend that much cash.
My question is: the tourists from China bring business to many cities. It is welcome. But if you think most tourists who spend a lot are government officials, what do you think? Do you respect them? Admire them?
I know, most people give credit to the development of Chinese economy, if you think the average income level in China - $120/month is a good pay for most workers, what conclusion will you have if you see an official spend $5000 on one shopping trip?
I do not blame any body here, even those officials, I think the problem is not individual, it is a system problem.
Ignorance
I do not support the Communist Party in China and in all ways wish to see them removed from power. However, I think it is extremely unfair that everyone calls the CCP an evil regime, cult etc. They are not. They are simply a party which is bent on remaining in power. That doesn't make them satan-worshippers or genocide leaders. They are simply a few old men who want to stay in power. It's as simple as that.
Now with China classified as a Newly-Industrialized Country, I think alot of people from Hong Kong and Taiwan has lost their superiority in wealth. Thus, they turn their attention to 'democracy' and call the Communist Party a brutal regime. However, I think the Communist Party, because of their will to stay in power, has truly down some remarkable things to change China. I'm not even going to talk about the impressive GDP growth they have generated the past decade, but the thought of feeding 1.3 billion citizens is daunting enough. But rarely or none at all do you see reports that there are about massive starvation in rural China. Furthermore, The Communist party isn't building personality cults like in North Korea, they are improving the lives of it's citizens, even though it comes from the desire to stay in power.
All in all, I think alot of people are using democracy as an excuse to either put China down, as in the case of Taiwan and the United States, or to express discontent with their personal lives and seeing no way out, devote themselves to campaigning for democracy. I don't think there is a valid reason for a change of political system right now, and China is a country of 1.3 billion people, changing anything has dire consequences for everyone, you, me, the world. So think about what democracy will bring to China first, before blindly exporting the idea into the country.
Can be better
Suggest you read http://boxun.us often to have a full picture.
1.4 billion are not fed by any pary, they work hard to feed themselves and they lose large part of their share to corrupted officials. Feeding 1.4 billion by a party is an very unique idea of distatorship. I guess U.S. is doing well better, can you say Democratic or Republican feed the people?
Hong Kong and Taiwan are still much better than mainland. Check out their income level and social welfare. If Taiwan and Hong Kong are free to go to settle down for mainlanders, where do you think people will choose to live?
In the whole world, which country's government will put its citizen homeless overnight? Boxun reported too many cases, the homes were destroyed after the owners left for work, or invited to talk by the officials. Their personal belongings are buried in the debris. In a system that power can abuse people's property freely, when officials use power to do business and make profit, I do not think it will encourage a good value. It will not be a creative society either.
I always suggest people holding your opinions to live in China for a long time, settle down in China. Then come back to tell us what do you think.
A necessary interim step
There is no way a country could go from a socialistic dictatorship with a centrally planned economy into full democracy with market economy in one step. So - the necessary interim step is market economy without democracy - just the way it is in China today.
Can you prove that claim? I
Can you prove that claim? I think it's just not true. More like: Dictatorship -> Human Rights -> Democracy -> economic changes (whatever is chosen)
Proof of claim
Well - full democracy calls for a certain economic standard and standard of education which is not at hand to begin with. Without stability ("law and order") there will be only chaos. As the material standard grows (under the "good" dictatorship) an educated class will develope and democracy may evolve as the next step. Look at Taiwan (developed in these two steps) and compare with Africa (still chaos). Look at Vietnam now underway. Or the historic development of the European democracies.
It is my belief that China will end up as a full democracy.
But - the dictatorship must be "good".
