Bombs, Burqas, Burqinis by Parvez Sharma

Strange times, my friends...strange times

In the NWFP (North West Frontier Province) of Pakistan, a male suicide bomber dressed in a Burqa has killed 15 people.

On the Internet, Australian Lebanese designer Ahiida is selling Dynamic Sportwear and Swimwear for Today's Muslim Female. (TMF as I shall always call them forevermore). The Burqinis (TM) says Ahiida are chlorine resistant and water repellant.

I hope this new sartorial choice for the TMF's- repels much more than water-and has a special feature to repel those poor misogynistic Muslim men we hear so much about.

For all my god fearing Muslim sisters 'JIHADA's'- Ahiida has a SALE right now-she is giving us discounts so that we may swim freely on our rocky beaches in Gaza, and not have to worry about the bombs and bombshells from the Israeli 'Defence Forces'.

And yes, they do wear Chanel Abayas in Jeddah (I almost got one for myself) and yes, the chadors
on the streets of Tehran were slipping, till the Fashion Police and the Friendly NeighbourHood Basij caught on. And yes as a Gay Muslim Male(GMM) I have every right to my Burqa and Burqini Drag. See you all at Cairo Pride next year! And yes-Hijab Fashion, the magazine and the fashion phenomenon does EXIST, right here

And yes, THERE IS NO DEMOCRACY WITHOUT THE FREEDOM TO DRESS, MODESTLY. (always).

As I always say:

Jihad! Jihad! Everywhere! And so many drops to drink!
The Jamia Hafsa brigade in Islamabad-sheathed in Burqas, guardians of a Talibanisation morality and armed with weapons and Qurans.
In Cairo, Amr Khaleds legions of female fans with their modesty, fashion sense and hymens supposedly intact armed with Hijab Fashion.
In Zamalek, with their un-Islamic legs and chests, the party girls armed with Elie Saab.
Pervez Musharraf, struggles, barely, to stay alive.
Hosni Mubarak, barely alive, clings to his un elected office.
Ahmadi-nejad rations petrol but not his rhetoric on the state-he-dare-not-name.
In Delhi, La Gandhi silent as Indian doctors become the new Jihadis.
In Cairo, in Islamabad, in Tehran-hushed whispers about change. Who will fight for whose revolution?

Keep writing!

Congratulations Mr. Sharma. I have read your pieces on The Huffington Post and enjoy your stimulating social commentary mixed with biting wit. It is refreshing to have an insider perspective on contemporary issues barely touched on in the West. Good luck with the film and with your jihad!
